Treasure Hall
Housed herein are some 3.500 valuable items – industrial art works, armory, household effects, Noh masks, musical instruments etc., mostly used by the top figures of the Heike Clan, a dominant politico-military family in the feudal days. Among them are about 130 pieces of national treasures, important cultural assets, including 32 volumes of Heike Clan’s Buddhist sutras.
In the texts of dedication in the sutras, Taira-no-Kiyomori himself wrote as follows.
"the land of living, I have attained almost everything that I wanted to get. In gratitude for this benefit I transcribe 32 Buddhist sutras to dedicate to the shrine."
The large root at the entrance is a part of the roots of the camphor which was used for the main pillar of O-torii Gate when the gate was repaired in 1951.
